Guru.com is a U.S. based business marketplace founded in 1998. Originally it was named as Emoonlighter.com and later changed into guru.com in 2002. It was a low budget company once and managed to survive dot-com bubble in late 1990s.
Guru.com connects employers and employees in 160 different fields. Creating an account and profile is easy with Guru. This site remains profitable, even after providing some services at free of cost.
The employers can post a project in Guru and find freelancers to do it. After finding freelancers they have to deposit funds. Once they receive their completed project, they have to release funds for the employers. The employers can refine results while searching for workers by entering zip codes (applicable only for U.S. workers). It has suggestion forums for freelancers. They can test their skills through skill test center in the site and find projects accordingly.
It is said that, Guru.com is a bit biased toward the employer. This fact was also admitted by Inder Guglani, founder and CEO of Guru.com. Guru claims that it is the largest online market place.
